What Is Social Media Marketing?

Social media marketing refers to the process of attracting an audience or attention through social media platforms.

Social media itself is a catch-all term for sites that may provide radically different social actions. Take Facebook and Twitter for example. You know your target audience is using both Facebook and Twitter. Do you approach both of them the same? You don’t, the benefits are different, the strategies are different, the users are different and you have to account for that.

The social media marketing strategies you ultimately use will define how successful you are. A lot of business owners forget to be “social” in their marketing. Times have changed and traditional marketing is not as effective in today’s marketplace. Marketing on social media is much more than just posting content, it has become an “art.” The more artistic you become, the better.

Social Media Channels

When most people think social media marketing, most of them are targeting the top tier of social platforms. Technically, there’s thousands of social media websites, but most people target where the mass users are.

Why You Need Social Media Marketing

For starters, your target clients and customers are using social media. If you’re not in front of them, you’re not going to get their attention. That does your business no good. It takes a good social media marketing plan to break through all the noise as I’m sure you know, there’s thousands of other choices your target clients can choose from.

In my one-on-one coaching program for entrepreneurs, I teach them the importance of being yourself. To be quite frank, most coaches, consults and experts try to mimic other experts and this is a huge mistake. Your perfect clients have the same beliefs, values and passions as you. If you’re not being yourself, guess what, do you think you’re going to attract your perfect clients? That’s a big no.

Attracting potential clients using social media is easier than you think, you have to stop overthinking your approach. A few simple steps can drastically improve your marketing results using social media.
